As we approach the end of the 2023 Serie A season, it's time to take a look at the current standings in Italy's top flight of football. Serie A is one of Europe's most competitive leagues, and this season has been no exception. With a few matches left to play, the title race is still wide open and it is anyone's guess who will come out on top.
At the top of the table we find AC Milan who currently sit in first place with a total of 63 points. They have been in a great run of form, winning nine of their last ten matches and look set to end the season as champions. However, they are being chased hard by Inter Milan and Roma, who are just two points behind.
Further down the table, we have Juventus in fourth place with 54 points. The Turin giants have endured a difficult season and will be looking to finish the campaign strongly to secure Champions League qualification. They are followed by Lazio in fifth place with 51 points, and Atalanta in sixth with 50 points.
The Battle for European Qualification
The battle for European qualification remains fierce this season with four teams currently in contention for the final two spots in the Champions League. Napoli are in seventh place with 49 points, and Fiorentina are just behind them in eighth place with 48 points. Both teams will be looking to make a late surge and secure a spot in Europe’s elite competition.
Further down the table, we have Torino in ninth place with 46 points, followed by Genoa in tenth with 45 points. Both teams have had a decent season, but they will need to finish strongly to secure a spot in the Europa League. Sampdoria and Verona are also in contention for a Europa League spot, but they will need to make up some ground to overtake the teams ahead of them.
The Relegation Zone
At the bottom of the table, we find Bologna in 18th place with 35 points. They have been in the relegation zone for much of the season, and it looks unlikely that they will be able to survive. Benevento and Crotone are just below them with 33 and 32 points respectively, and they are both set to be relegated this season.
The final relegation spot is still up for grabs, with Cagliari and Parma currently in the drop zone on 30 and 28 points respectively. Both teams will need to pick up some points in the final few matches of the season if they are to avoid the drop.
The Final Push
With only a few matches left to play, the battle for the Serie A title and European qualification is still wide open. AC Milan are leading the way at the top of the table, but they could still be challenged by Inter Milan and Roma. Further down the table, the fight for European qualification and relegation is also still raging. With so much still to play for, the final few matches of the 2023 Serie A season are sure to be action-packed.
